There is no single best CRM for AI agents handling client projects and tasks. The right one depends on what you want the AI to do. Going by each vendor’s own docs, read November 1, 2026:
- Productive is best if you want an AI to answer budget questions across projects.
- Moxie is best if you want access set area by area, with an audit trail.
- Workspace369 is best if your worry is a connected AI changing approved hours or switching on automations.

What AI project and task handling is (and is not)
It means an AI app you already use, such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, connects to your CRM through MCP, the Model Context Protocol, and works on your real client projects. You ask “what’s overdue on the Rivera site rebuild?” or “add a review task after design sign-off and log two hours to it”, and it does that in your account.
That work comes in three kinds:
- Reading: what’s late, who’s on what, where the hours went.
- Changing the plan: creating projects and tasks, moving dates, setting dependencies.
- Recording time: logging and editing hours, often billable ones.
Unlike a proposal or an invoice, most of this never reaches your client. The risk sits in your own records: hours that feed billing, budgets, and automations that act on your behalf. So this guide looks at what each AI can change, and at which protections each vendor’s docs state.
It isn’t general project management for any team. This guide is about client work in an agency, where projects belong to clients and hours become invoices.
How we compared these tools
On November 1, 2026, we read each vendor’s own public MCP documentation, signed out, and checked four things:
- Projects: can an AI create or change client projects, and what can it set?
- Tasks: tasks, subtasks, dependencies, comments.
- Time: logging, editing and timesheets.
- Protections: whatever the docs state about limits on the AI, such as confirmations, access set per area, records it can’t change, audit logs or a separate test environment.
We compared what each vendor’s AI connection can do, not every screen in the app, so app-only features are left out for every vendor.
What we did not test. We didn’t connect an AI to any rival CRM, and we have no ratings or customer numbers. Where a vendor’s MCP page doesn’t mention something, it may still be possible, but it isn’t on the page we read. For which CRMs have an MCP server at all, see our census of MCP servers.
Client project work by CRM
| CRM | Projects | Tasks | Time | Protections its docs state | Standout |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Moxie (beta, Pro and Teams) | Review, pause, cancel or resume project work | Tasks, comments, dependencies, tickets | Time entries and timers | Access per area; never beyond the user’s role; denied writes leave the record unchanged; some externally visible actions confirmed; 30-day audit log | A project-delivery playbook |
| Productive (Ultimate plan) | Create, update and manage projects, with client companies in the same connection | Tasks and subtasks with assignees, statuses and dependencies | Log, update and delete time entries; timers; timesheet submissions | Each person connects only their own account; a separate sandbox server | Reports across budgets, time, financials, projects and people |
| Workspace369 | Create client-linked projects with dates, budget and priority | Tasks on boards with estimates, dependencies, custom fields and checklists | Log and edit your own time, billable or not; list timesheets | Submitted, approved and period-locked entries refused; a connected AI app can’t build or switch on workflows; client-limited members see only their clients | Project progress comes from task completion |
The best CRMs for AI agents handling client projects, by what you need
These three are in alphabetical order. Each is best for a different reader, so read the “best for” lines. Every fact comes from the vendor’s own docs, read November 1, 2026.
Moxie, best for access set area by area, with an audit trail
Moxie’s MCP server lets an AI review projects, pause, cancel or resume project work, and manage tasks, comments, dependencies, time entries, timers and tickets. It can load Moxie’s own playbooks, including project delivery and ticket-to-task follow-up. When you connect, you can customize access, setting each area to no access, read only, or read and write.
Its docs state more protections than most. The AI can never do more than the connected user’s own role allows. A denied write should leave the record unchanged and explain what access is missing. Each connection is listed separately, so you can revoke one. Moxie keeps an audit of who called which tool, from which app and with what outcome, for 30 days.
Worth knowing: the server is a beta, on Pro and Teams workspaces only, and project collaborators can’t connect during the beta. The docs say some destructive or externally visible actions need confirmation, without listing which.
Best for: studios that want to decide, area by area, what an AI may change, and to see afterwards what it did.
Productive, best for asking an AI about budgets across projects
Productive’s MCP server covers projects, tasks and subtasks with assignees, due dates, statuses and dependencies. It also covers time entries, timers and timesheet submissions, and your client companies and deals, all in one connection. An AI can also query reports across budgets, time, financials, projects and people, so “which client projects are over budget this month?” is a question it can answer.
Each person connects individually, and the connection reaches only their own Productive account. A separate sandbox server with its own data lets you try an AI before it touches live projects. It’s also a native app in ChatGPT.
Worth knowing: the MCP server is on the Ultimate plan. It can delete time entries, pages and comments, and the docs don’t describe a confirmation step, so start in the sandbox and decide what it may touch.
Best for: agencies that run projects, time and finances in one tool and want an AI that answers money questions about delivery.
Workspace369, best for keeping a connected AI away from approved hours and workflow switch-on
Workspace369’s MCP tools reference lets an AI create client-linked projects with status, dates, budget, priority and tags. Project progress comes from task completion rather than being typed in. It creates tasks on boards with assignees, estimates, dates, dependencies (Voyager and up), custom fields and checklists. It adds comments, which the docs say send nothing to a client, and logs time with client, project, task and billable status.
Its docs state two protections around your records. Submitted, approved and period-locked time entries are refused, so hours a manager has approved stay as approved. And a connected AI app can list, read, test and turn off workflows, but not build them or switch them on. That happens in Workspace369 itself. Members limited to specific clients see only those clients’ records through the AI.
Worth knowing: time the AI logs is recorded as the connected person’s own, so each teammate’s hours stay their own.
Best for: agencies whose hours feed client invoices and who want an AI to help run projects without touching approved time or switching on automations.
Also worth a look
- ClickUp: its MCP server manages tasks with assignees, priorities and due dates, and logs time entries and timers. Its docs say that “for the time being” it hasn’t added deletion tools, as a safety measure. It’s a general work tool rather than a client-work CRM.
- monday.com: its developer docs list agent skills for project status and health, tasks assigned to a person across projects, portfolios, and archiving or deleting a project.
- HoneyBook: its connector can create a project and answer questions about one. The docs say the assistant should check with you before changing anything a client will see.
- Attio: an AI can create follow-up tasks and set deadlines, and its writes request confirmation.
Which CRM fits your situation
| Your situation | Start with |
|---|---|
| You want an AI to tell you which client projects are over budget | Productive |
| You want to set what the AI can change, area by area, and review what it did | Moxie |
| Your hours feed invoices, and you want approved time locked against AI edits | Workspace369 (we found no equivalent statement in Moxie’s or Productive’s docs) |
| Your team already plans in ClickUp | ClickUp |
Before you let an AI near your client projects
- Start with reading. Ask “what’s overdue this week?” before you let it change anything.
- Decide what it may delete. Some servers can delete time entries or pages, and some list no delete tools. Know which you’re connecting.
- Protect approved hours. If your time becomes invoices, find out whether an AI can edit time that’s already submitted or approved.
- Check whose account it acts as. Find out whether it works as you, and only within your role.
- Watch your automations. Find out whether an AI can switch a workflow on, or only off.
- Test first if you can. A sandbox or a read-only setting lets you see how it behaves before it touches live projects.
